On Thursday 30th May 10 girls representing our two 6th classes travelled to the Íontas in Castleblayney to take part in the Primary School Enterprise Development Awards along with 9 other schools from all over Co. Monaghan. Since February the 6th classes have participated in a number of enterprise development modules with consultant, Fionnuala Rogers, where they learned how to set up and run a small business. As part of the project each class had to develop a product, carry out market research, set up production and sell their goods.
Under the guidance of their two teachers, Mrs Cassidy and Ms. Holland, the girls decided to set up companies to create jewellery and fairy doors. Mrs Cassidy’s class designed and created their own bracelets and earrings and named their company, “Embrace Your Bracelet.” They put the jewellery on sale in school just in time for Mother’s Day and it proved to be a sell-out success with all our classes. Ms. Holland’s class came up with the idea of making their own customised fairy doors, complete with a fairy story and containers of fairy dust. They called their company, “Funky Fairies” and targeted our 2nd class pupils as their main market.
Both classes showcased lovely displays of their products at the Awards Ceremony and the 10 girls engaged eagerly with the judging panel on the day. When the winners were announced, Ms. Holland’s class had won the 2nd overall prize! Congratulations to them on this great achievement and very well done to Mrs Cassidy’s class too on the high standard of their entry.
